The changes to my Homelab

If you're reading this then that means you might have and interest in homelabbing or self hosting. I currently have two servers in which I store my data and have services running, for example this blog is hosted on them.

The first server (Amuro) is the NAS and JellyFin server. It currently holds 4.6 TBs of files across 6 wildly different drive sizes. The two big drives are a pair of 4TB Seagate drives. with one of them being empty and the other 80% full of various Animes.

The move is to consolidate storage and files across multiple devices and to put into production mine and Mabelsugar's website. Also various other services that would be self hosted.

The move would consist of the following.

Amuro Ray
  1. Move all data to a 8TB disk drive temporarily. Data from current NAS and personal PC.
  2. Purchase 2 x 4TB drives for a Xpenology Raid5 Pool. The Xpenology Machine will be the main NAS going forward.
  3. Install JellyFin via docker on Xpenology Machine.
  4. Install and configure Synology Photostation App on personal cellphones.
  5. Purchase and install a 2TB NVMe drive to replace both mechanical drives in person PC.

The 2nd server (Kamille) would be an all SSD based server for the website hosting and PiHole service. Tried to deploy Mysqldb on a raid 5 configuration of 5400RPM 1tb disks which did not perform as expected. Building the Ghost Database (Mysql) took literally hours to do. When I placed swapped the Raid5 configuration for a singular 256GB SSD the performance was night and day what took 7hours to build on a Raid5(5400RPM) setup took a minute to complete.
The Kamille server would backup regularly to Amuro server for data backups.

Hopefully this all goes to plan.
